Real Madrid preparing €100m bid for Liverpool star Alexis Mac Allister amid Xabi Alonso push

Real Madrid are reportedly set to launch a €100million bid for Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister, following new manager Xabi Alonso’s push to bring the Argentina international to the Santiago Bernabéu this summer.

Madrid endured a disappointing 2024/25 campaign, losing both their LaLiga title and Champions League crown. In response, the club replaced Carlo Ancelotti with former Madrid and Liverpool midfielder Alonso, who is now reshaping the squad.

The Spanish giants have already secured the signings of Dean Huijsen and Trent Alexander-Arnold, with Franco Mastantuono set to arrive when he turns 18. Additionally, Madrid have agreed a €50m deal with Benfica for left-back Álvaro Carreras, a former academy player.

Now, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Alonso is keen to make Mac Allister his fifth signing. The report claims Madrid are preparing an opening offer of €100m (£86.3m) and could increase it if they offload players like Daniel Ceballos and Brahim Diaz.

Alonso reportedly views Mac Allister as the ideal midfielder for his system and has identified him as a top target following Madrid’s 4-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup semi-final. However, a move may hinge on the departure of players such as Rodrygo.

Fichajes adds that Madrid believe Mac Allister could be tempted by the opportunity to lead a new era at the Bernabéu and hope to convince him to ask Liverpool for a transfer.

Will Liverpool sell Mac Allister?

While Fichajes isn’t the most trusted source, Spanish media have regularly linked Mac Allister with Madrid interest. Even former boss Ancelotti was reportedly an admirer of the World Cup and Copa América winner.

Still, Liverpool are unlikely to let him go easily. Mac Allister played a key role in their Premier League title-winning season and is viewed as a crucial figure by new manager Arne Slot.

Speaking to the club’s website in May, Slot praised the Argentine’s game intelligence, ball control, and intensity without the ball—calling him one of the rare players who combines technical excellence with defensive tenacity.

In April, BBC Sport contributor Jordan Chamberlain claimed Mac Allister was not only Liverpool’s top midfielder last season, but possibly the best in the Premier League in Rodri’s absence.

More transfer moves from Madrid

Madrid have already wrapped up a fourth summer signing with a £43m deal, per Fabrizio Romano and The Athletic. Meanwhile, Alonso is reportedly eyeing a major move for a Tottenham star after identifying key weaknesses exposed in the Club World Cup semi-final.

To reshape the squad, Alonso is also said to be planning to sell three current first-team players who he believes don’t meet his standards going forward.
