Arsenal have reportedly decided against pursuing a transfer for Ivan Toney following a meeting where they found his personality not to their liking, according to recent reports.
Speaking on the Charles Watts YouTube channel, football insider Team News and Ticks indicated that Arsenal’s interest in Ivan Toney has cooled significantly due to concerns over his personality. Toney, who had ambitions to return to playing, earn a spot in the England squad, and join a top club like Arsenal, met with the Gunners but failed to impress them.
Reports suggest that despite Toney viewing himself as a strong fit for Arsenal’s attacking system under Mikel Arteta, the club’s assessment of his personality and fit within the squad was unfavorable.
Earlier in the season, Arsenal were keen on Toney, as reported by John Cross of the Mirror, but their interest has diminished over time. Toney’s form, which saw a dip after returning from a gambling ban, also contributed to Arsenal’s decision. Despite a strong start with four goals in five games, Toney struggled subsequently, failing to score in his next 12 appearances.
Although Gareth Southgate included Toney in England’s squad for Euro 2024, citing his unique attributes among other forwards, Arsenal’s reservations about both his form and personality have effectively ruled out any potential move to North London this summer.
