The International Biathlon Union (IBU) has announced the rescheduling of the men’s sprint event at the Oberhof World Cup in Germany. The competition, originally slated for Thursday, has been postponed to Friday due to unfavourable weather conditions, including high temperatures, rain, and strong wind forecasts.
The revised schedule now places the men’s 10 km sprint at 11:20 a.m. on Friday, followed by the women’s 7.5 km sprint at 2:25 p.m. The adjustments ensure a safer and more conducive environment for the athletes, considering the challenging weather conditions anticipated for Thursday.
We think that the IBU has made the correct decision as Biathlon competitions can easily get unfair in adverse weather conditions.
The program for the remainder of the weekend in Oberhof remains unchanged, with pursuits scheduled for Saturday and relays set to take place on Sunday. The schedule is as follows:
Friday, January 5
11:20 a.m.: Men’s 10 km sprint
2:25 p.m.: Women’s 7.5 km sprint
Saturday, January 6
12:25 p.m.: Men’s 12.5 km pursuit
2:40 p.m.: Women’s 10 km pursuit
Sunday, January 7
11:30 a.m.: Men’s 4×7.5 km relay
2:25 p.m.: Women’s 4×6 km relay
