As one of the most exciting young teams in England, Chelsea have a core of players who could be with the club for a decade. Some positions, though, are less sound than others. A fine example of this would be when it comes to left-back. The full-back positions are mostly taken up by experienced players or rotation options who lack week to week consistency. That’s why manager Frank Lampard seems set to make a move for Leicester full-back Ben Chilwell.
Chilwell, has been a star for Leicester for the last 18 months, but has exploded into a new level again after working with Brendan Rodgers. With a potential replacement already lined up in Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney, this could see the Blues grab a new young full-back to build around, and Leicester a fantastically committed talent replacing him.
The England international has been linked to several big clubs in the English top flight, but Chelsea are the one who seem to be most keen on a move. For Chilwell, the chance to move to a club playing in the UEFA Champions League on a regular basis could be appealing. While his current side might make the top table of Europe, it’s not likely to be a long-term thing.
So, an exit from the Foxes might be a likely event come the summer. There has been talk of an exit for some time, and it looks like London might be his destination.
